As an introverted diplomat hailing from a small country in Southeast Asia, I harboured numerous apprehensions both before and during my initial semester in the MEIG Programme. Moreover, coming from an engineering background, I found the pedagogical approach and learning methodologies to be markedly practical. Consequently, I found myself oscillating between anticipation and trepidation. Given my status as a scholar representing the government sector, the prospect of underperforming in this program weighed heavily on me, considering the potential ramifications. However, I discovered that the modules and lectures offered a holistic approach, affording me the opportunity to immerse myself in a novel field previously unexplored. The instructional strategies, predominantly rooted in practitioner perspectives, seamlessly integrated theories with practical applications, facilitating rapid comprehension and retention. Notably, a particular module aided in enhancing my public speaking skills and bolstering my confidence, a significant milestone for someone with introverted tendencies like me.
The aspect of the MEIG Programme that resonated most profoundly with me was the examination process. Initially fraught with apprehension, subsequent examinations engendered within me a curious blend of anxiety and excitement. Each module presented a unique set of questions, fostering an environment conducive to articulating individual viewpoints within the governance framework. Lastly, the program afforded me the invaluable opportunity to glean insights into diverse global regions through interaction with a heterogeneous cohort, thereby cultivating robust networking connections. If tasked with summarizing the essence of the MEIG Programme in three words, I would characterize it as challenging, nurturing, and concrete foundation.
